ECB's Draghi about next meeting
The ECB President Mario Draghi has made several important comments during this weekend:
- The ECB is ready to add to stimulus if the outlook for prices deteriorates, though there are currently no signs of deflation in the euro area.
- The meeting on March 6 will be critical in determining whether the ECB will do more easing, as by then it will have “the full set of information needed for deciding whether to act or not” and publish for the first time its 2016 inflation projection.
According to the Wall Street Journal, by highlighting the significance of the meeting, Draghi’s comments may boost market speculation the ECB will cut rates next month.
