Good NFP sends USD up

US Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) came at 257K vs. 236K expected. December reading was revised up from 252K to 329K.

Average hourly earnings rose by 0.5%. That’s higher than +0.3% change expected and is definitely good after a 0.2% decline in the previous month.

The unemployment rate edged higher from 5.6% to 5.7%.

US dollar was supported by the data release. USD/JPY jumped to 118.65, while EUR/USD slid to 1.1350. GBP/USD got rejected at the 1.5350 resistance, but the bulls keep fighting unwilling to give up.
