Greece approved austerity measures
Greek lawmakers approved austerity measures that clear the way for the next batch of bailout loans of 6.8 billion euro (almost $9 billion). The measures include layoffs for more than 25,000 people. Some 3,000 people protested peacefully outside the Parliament in central Athens ahead of the vote.
It was the first major test for conservative Prime Minister Antonis Samaras since a left-wing party abandoned his coalition government last month.
