Voices from the Fed
Last week 4 Fed officials signaled willingness to begin tapering QE3: Dallas Fed President Richard Fisher, Chicago Fed Charles Evans, Philadelphia Fed President Charles Plosser and Cleveland Fed President Sandra Pianalto.
Dallas Fed President Richard Fisher, one of the most vocal critics of the central bank’s so-called quantitative easing program, said it is “timely” for US central bankers to begin moderating record monetary stimulus as the economy continues to improve. “We’ll have to see what the data is and the feeling is between now and the time we next meet in September,” said Fisher.
According to a Bloomberg survey, half of the respondents predict Fed policy makers will start trimming purchases at their September 17-18 meeting.
This week’s schedule:
Tuesday: Atlanta Fed President Dennis Lockhart
Wednesday: St. Louis Fed President James Bullard
