BoE Broadbent: comments on rates
The Bank of England policymaker Ben Broadbent said on Sunday the regulator will only consider an interest-rate increase once the recovery is secure. He also noted that the forward guidance could be reconsidered if inflation becomes a problem
“We want to ensure that this recovery, which is only just beginning in a way, continues and is not choked off by a premature rise in interest rates,” Broadbent said in a television interview on Sky News.
In August the BoE committed to keeping rates on hold at a record 0.5% low until unemployment falls below 7% unless the inflation threatens to get out of control.
