Dow hovers close to record peak
On Friday, American stock futures headed for slight losses, clouding the Dow industrials’ likelihood of a new closing peak, as the growing greenback prompted concerns regarding exporters.
The fresh strength in the greenback comes after Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen indicated on Thursday that a December interest-rate lift was about to go ahead.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures ESZ6 sank 0.1%, trading at 18,844, while S&P 500 futures ESZ6 lost up to 0.16%, trading at 2,179.75. Nasdaq-100 futures ESZ6 dipped 0.16%, trading at 4,823.75.
Wall Street concluded a wobbly trading session a bit higher after Yellen’s remarks on Thursday. Additionally, the Dow DJIA closed +0.2%, being worth 18,903.82, which is 20 points short of the all-time closing peak, reached on Tuesday.
On Friday, the ICE Dollar Index DXY, evaluating the currency against a basket of six counterparts, reached a fresh 13-year peak, The US dollar was trading at levels not observed in months against the Japanese yen.
